We’re delighted to announce that Blanchardstown Centre for Independent Living (BCIL) has been selected as a County Finalist in the 2025 National Lottery Good Causes Awards, under the Health & Wellbeing category.
This recognition highlights the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and community — and the powerful impact of our work supporting people with disabilities in Dublin 15 to live independently, with dignity, autonomy, and choice.
“We went from supporting 36 people in 2019 to 302 today,” said BCIL Manager Antoinette Tierney. “The demand is growing, and so is our commitment to meet it with compassion, respect, and community spirit.”
A History of Advocacy
Founded in 1994 by people with disabilities for people with disabilities, BCIL was established with a vision: to provide real alternatives to institutional living. We have developed a range of person-centred services that empower disabled people to live full, connected lives in the community.
Our services include:
- Wheelchair-accessible transport for medical, social, and community appointments
- Home support that fosters independence, not dependency
- Peer support groups and access audits for inclusion advocacy
- Information, advocacy, and assistance with accessing public services and entitlements
- Volunteer linking services that reduce isolation
- A sensory-rich community garden
- Phoenix FM, our community radio station that gives voice to lived experiences
A Community Achievement
This finalist nomination is not just a recognition of our work — it’s a celebration of our community. From local volunteers and service users to partner organisations, donors, and public bodies, BCIL’s success is deeply rooted in collective effort.
As part of the awards campaign, we’ll be sharing stories over the next month that reflect who we are and why this work matters.
