NDA’s Secondary Analysis of Sexual Violence and Harassment in Irish Higher Education Institutions(2021) Experienced by Disabled Students

NDA’s (National Disability Authority) report delves into whether students with disabilities are affected by sexual harassment and violence compared to their non-disabled peers, operating under the premise that individuals face raised vulnerability to such incidents. Utilizing secondary analysis of data provided by the Higher Education Authority, the study examines the encounters of both staff and students within HEIs.

The findings reveal that among the survey respondents, 10% of students with disabilities reported experiencing sexual violence, while 15% reported experiencing sexual harassment.

While acknowledging that this sample may not fully represent the broader population, the report contributes valuable insights to the national increased surrounding sexual violence and harassment experienced by individuals with disabilities.
