Self-Employment Supports for Persons With Disabilities

Over recent months, TU Dublin has undertaken a significant initiative to broaden access to entrepreneurship training for individuals with disabilities. Traditionally delivered as a course from September to December each year, this program—generously funded by AIB and supported by the Open Doors Initiative—now offers expanded resources aimed at making entrepreneurial skills accessible year-round.

In collaboration with the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) network, TU Dublin has introduced a comprehensive, free e-learning course. Developed in partnership with a Lithuanian-based company and funded by TU Dublin’s Growth Hub, the course is complemented by a suite of supporting materials, including PowerPoint presentations, a workbook, an instructor guide, case studies, and video interviews.

The resources are designed for flexible, self-directed learning, allowing individuals to complete the 12 modules at their own pace. Learners can take as much time as needed, making it ideal for those who prefer a self-guided approach. Additionally, organizations can utilize these materials to deliver structured, in-person courses if there is interest in a group setting; a teacher’s guidebook is available to support this format.

This online course is tailored for anyone with a business idea who wishes to gain a deeper understanding of the entrepreneurial process. Each module builds towards the gradual development of a business plan. Accessible from any location and available year-round, the course enables participants to start and finish on their own schedule, making it a versatile option for aspiring entrepreneurs.

These resources, created in coordination with Enterprise Ireland and the LEO network, are now available free of charge and can be accessed at the following link: Self-Employment Supports for Persons with Disabilities. This initiative represents a valuable step towards fostering entrepreneurial opportunities within the disability community.
